What Is Classical Pilates?

Classical Pilates is a form of exercise and movement developed and refined by Joseph Pilates 
  over a period of 80 years. These exercises are done on the mat, reformer and cadilac. 
Classical Pilates improves posture, flexibility, and physical
movement creating balanced strength and stamina.
Pilates has grown in popularity over recent years, with a multitude of classes being offered,
many of which are not Classical Pilates but Pilates based and incorporate other exercise movements.
Joseph Pilates believed that mental and physical health was one and the same and this is
fundamental in Classical Pilates. Creating "The Pilates Principles"
Joseph Pilates taught precise movements that emphasize control to condition the body as a whole.

These principles are central in the instruction of Classical Pilates. Joseph Pilates
believed that his method had a theoretical and a philosophical foundation and was not simply
a random collection of exercises.
